It is hard to believe that in the year 2008, many organizations are still not using some type of source code management (SCM). For at least the last 15+ years, SCM has been a well defined best practice in developing software. Recently, I was on a call with a customer that was doing all types of development, had more than 20 people working for the group, and had previously built some highly used commercial software, so I asked the question "what type of SCM software are you using today for your group?"
